Test&Treat Ltd

Testing urine for a UTI is still grossly underperformed in general practice, especially for subclinical UTIs as there are no outward clinical signs. U-treat technology offers a solution to this problem by allowing vets to test for a bacterial UTI in dogs and cats without the wait.

U-treat is a simple 2 step process:

  • Test 1: detects the presence of bacteria (5 minutes)
  • Test 2: determines antibiotic susceptibility (30 minutes)

(Please note, Test 2 only needs to be run on ‘positive’ Test 1 samples.)

Where can U-treat be used?

  • Any dog or cat presenting with clinical signs consistent with a UTI such as stranguria, haematuria, pollakiuria, dysuria and periruria
  • At routine checks for patients with a chronic medical condition that predisposes to UTIs, such as diabetes, hyperadrenocorticism, chronic kidney disease and hyperthyroidism
  • Urolithiasis cases
  • For the ‘blocked’ cat, at the time of unblocking and again at urinary catheter removal
  • Perineal urethrostomy cases, which are prone to UTIs post-surgery
  • Pyrexia of unknown origin cases, where a UTI needs to be ruled in or out as part of a diagnostic work-up
  • Urethral sphincter mechanism incontinence dogs that are prone to UTIs
